What is the weather like?

Zimbabwe has a tropical climate marked by two main seasons—wet summer and dry winter. When packing, be sure to bring outdoor clothing in neutral colours, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunblock. While winters are generally mild, early mornings and evenings can get chilly, especially on open vehicle drives or bush walks, so warm layers are essential.

  • September – November: Hot & Dry (Early Summer)

Expect long, hot days—perfect for game drives and outdoor adventures. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing to stay cool and comfortable.

  • December – April: Wet Season (Summer)

This is the rainy season, with hot, humid conditions and occasional heavy showers. Light clothing is ideal, but include a sweater for the odd cooler day. A raincoat is a must. It’s a beautiful time to visit as the landscape transforms into lush, vibrant green with many plainsgame babies being born.

  • May – August: Cool & Dry (Winter)

These are Zimbabwe’s winter months, with chilly mornings and evenings. Pack a warm jacket, gloves, scarf, and a hat for early starts. Daytime temperatures remain pleasant, and it’s one of the best seasons for wildlife viewing and evenings around the campfire.
