Safari Stables Project

It doesn’t get much better than this!

Where else can you stare deep into a rhino’s eyes as she munches placidly, ride a horse alongside curious giraffe and walk through the wilderness with the gorgeous elephants all in one day?

Safari Stables Working Holiday promises to be an experience you will never forget. With the iconic African wilderness as your backdrop and a wide variety of incredible and exclusive Horse & Wildlife based activities on offer, this is a truly unmatched adventure. A unique and incomparable horse-back adventure awaits you! Whether you are on a gap year, career break, school holiday or just looking for something extraordinary to do, why not embark on the adventure of a lifetime?

Overview of the Safari Stables Project

“To ride a horse is to ride the sky” – Unknown

In Africa the sky is big! And the drama of colours on the horizon is heightened from horseback. Impala frisking during the dawn chorus, wildebeest mingling with zebra in the sunshine, magnificent kudu in the shade of Mopane trees or the silhouetted giraffe at sunset – every day is a safari!

Like Will Smith you might agree: “It’s really beautiful. God visits everywhere else but lives in Africa.”

Horses take you into the heart of the wilderness, up close and personal where you get to know individual animals and habits. You are often eyes and ears for the wildlife managers as you monitor animal health, wilderness issues and even snares.

Activites

  • Sunrise Ride: The warmth of your horse, the morning star fading as you both bear witness to the blushing colours spreading quietly over the wilderness – get your day started!
  • Sunset Ride: Africa’s magic is framed by her sunsets – Riding alongside the plains game as the sky shouts in colour – and the blazing silver stars answer the call – you are poetry in motion.
  • Horseback Safaris: Who will believe the stories that unfold around you daily? Discover the secret waterbuck hideout, the graceful kudu with horns curled back… the giraffe leaning in to hear your curious accents and the indifferent zebra munching grass as you decide if they are white on black or black on white.
  • Horse swim: On a hot day one of the favourite activities is to unsaddle and canter into the dam, experiencing the magic of a water-horse gliding along. As you shake off streams of water under the trees, indignant Egyptian geese will reclaim their shimmering paradise.
  • Polocrosse: Imagine a combination of polo and lacrosse on horseback (it’s the closest way we have to describe it!) This fun and fast-paced game will have you hooked after your first attempt.
  • Show-Jumping & Cross-Country: Develop your jumping skills in the African bush. Have a go on our very own cross-country course, dotted around the game reserve!
  • Overnight Horse Safari*: The ultimate safari experience. Swim on horseback in the dam, ride alongside the game in the reserve, enjoy a three-course meal out in the bush and sleep under the stars around a bonfire. It’s the most incredible way to see the beauty of African nature. Trust us, a starry night in Africa is unbeatable. This is a deep treasure for the memory bank.

*Additional Cost for the overnight horse safari.
